Weekly Overtime Calculation
This calculator uses the federal FLSA weekly overtime rule: hours worked over 40 in a single workweek qualify for overtime pay at 1.5× (or higher in some states).
Enter your hourly rate and the hours you worked each day. The calculator automatically tracks your cumulative weekly hours and marks the exact moment overtime kicks in.
Example: If you work 8 hours Monday–Friday, that's 40 regular hours. If you add 4 hours on Saturday, those 4 hours become overtime hours paid at 1.5×. The calculator shows this day-by-day.
Note: Some states like California also enforce daily overtime rules (8+ hours/day triggers 1.5×, 12+ hours triggers 2×). Check your state's rules for accuracy.
Federal Overtime Rules
- 40-hour weekly threshold
- Minimum 1.5× rate over 40 hrs
- Applies to non-exempt workers
- Any 7 consecutive days = 1 week
Calculate Weekly Overtime
Step-by-step breakdown of how weekly overtime is calculated.
Add up all hours worked in the week
Sum the hours from all 7 days of your workweek (Sunday–Saturday, Monday–Sunday, or whatever your employer uses).
Identify overtime hours
Any hours beyond 40 count as overtime. If you worked 48 hours total, you have 40 regular hours and 8 OT hours.
Calculate pay by rate
Multiply regular hours by your base rate. Multiply OT hours by 1.5× your base rate. Add them together for gross weekly pay.
Track daily breakdown
Use this calculator to see exactly which hours each day count as regular vs. overtime, helping you verify your paycheck.
